Socially Sound Coffee (Rainforest Alliance Certified) - Coffee is collected from small landholders throughout the beautiful island of Sumatra, one of the nearly 14,000 islands that make up the Indonesian Archipelago. This coffee has a syrupy, sweet rich body and cedarwood spice notes.
Are you after a rough, decadent coffee that stands up to cream and sugar? Sumatra is for you. One of over 13,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago, Sumatra is a land where coffee is grown by very small shareholders, then purchased from roadsides, consolidated, sorted, and exported. This unusual coffee is processed using a hybrid of the wet and dry processing methods to produce a subdued, huge-bodied, syrupy coffee with an aroma like autumn leaves and a taste reminiscent of butterscotch, herbs, and wild mushrooms.
Grown and processed by the cheery Batak people who live in the coffee production areas around Lake Toba in northern Sumatra, this special coffee is alive with intense flavors. The creamy body of the coffee is infused with a sweet herbal note and delicious aromatic woodsy tones – Sumatra Samosir Batak finishes with a rich butterscotch creaminess. As an additional benefit to the producers of this coffee, Caribou's supplier is hard at work to instill a sense of environmental and social sensitivity into our farmers' practices.
